The Women That Live Foundation held the ninth edition of the Paso Rosa race in Mexicali, bringing together approximately 1,000 participants in an event focused on promoting solidarity, hope, and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
The event took place at El Nido de los Águilas and featured a family-friendly atmosphere with athletic, recreational, and wellness activities throughout the morning.
Activities began at 6:30 a.m. with a group warm-up session led by coach Luis Daniel Ortiz of CORE-SANA. The official start of the race was held at 7 a.m. and was led by Women That Live Foundation President Ana Lucía Murillo Villalobos and Foundation Director Patricia Pacho Ruíz.
They were joined by several public health and sports officials, including Valerio III Camargo García, director of the Municipal Institute of Sports and Physical Culture (IMDECUF); Dr. Yenisey Espinosa Castro, head of the Mexicali and San Felipe Health Jurisdiction; and psychologist Annasara Romero Ortiz, coordinator of mammography services for the Cancer Program in the Mexicali and San Felipe Health District.
The competition opened with the 10-kilometer race, followed by the 5-kilometer category. Participants of various ages took part in the event, which organizers said was intended to encourage community participation while also raising awareness about breast cancer prevention and support for patients and survivors.
After completing the races, participants and attendees remained at the venue for additional activities, including a Zumba session and a yoga class led by Karuna Studio. Organizers also prepared activities for children, who were invited to run the bases at El Nido de los Águilas baseball field.
In the men’s 5-kilometer category, Julio Castellanos finished in first place, followed by Ian Antonio Román in second and Emanuel Risaraga in third.
Cristina Pérez won the women’s 5-kilometer race, while Nayely Bernal placed second and Fernanda Bernal finished third.
In the men’s 10-kilometer category, Alberto García earned first place. Andrés Bernal placed second and Antonio Arámbulo finished third.
Laura Núñez won the women’s 10-kilometer division, followed by Diana Rebolledo in second place and Vanesa Morales in third.
Toward the end of the event, participants gathered to fill the traditional pink ribbon display, a symbolic activity intended to show support for individuals affected by breast cancer.
Murillo Villalobos delivered closing remarks thanking sponsors, volunteers, collaborators, and runners for their participation and support of the event. Organizers highlighted the continued community response to Paso Rosa and its mission of promoting awareness and support for those battling breast cancer.
