The Imperial County Board of Supervisors recognized Calexico resident Zahira Rivas for her participation at the World Triathlon Championship that will take place this week in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Zahira qualified to compete at International Triathlon Union’s World Triathlon Grand Final from September 14th to the 17th.
ITU World Triathlon Series are held in iconic locations around the world. In 2017 Rotterdam, The Netherlands will be the host city. For the first time in 5 years the Grand Final is back in Europe.
The ITU World Triathlon Series is the annual series of triathlon events used to crown an annual world champion. There are eight rounds of competitions culminating in a Grand Final race. Athletes compete head-to-head for points in these races that will determine the overall ITU world champion
Zahira is a teacher at Imagine School in El Centro, California. She has a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and also studied health education.
