The University Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) hosted a momentous event on December 6th, as its president, Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre, spearheaded the inauguration of a new building equipped to facilitate radio and television production.
This impressive two-story building, spanning 800 square meters, received an investment of 34 million pesos to transform an erstwhile vacant lot. Situated between Reforma Avenue and Guillermo Prieto Street, it stands near the Faculty of Nursing and Sorteos UABC.
UABC inaugurated the new facility destined to house UABC Radio and Imagen UABC, media platforms aimed at disseminating research, science, and culture. The exterior design of the Production and Media Department’s new premises pays homage to Mexicali’s classical architecture, integrating elements from neighboring structures like the Rectoría building and the Colorado River Land Company. The construction covers an area of 838.37 m2, funded by UABC’s own resources, totaling an investment of 34,309,705 pesos.
The event honored individuals—Luis López Moctezuma, Álvaro Borboa Burruel, Antonio Meza Estrada, Jorge Álvarez Soto, and Hugo Abel Castro Bojórquez—who played pivotal roles in consolidating the university’s radio initiatives.
