-Editorial

The city of Tlaquepaque was filled with color and reflection during the inauguration of the Humanidad Migrante exhibition and the unveiling of the Corazón de Tlaquepaque mural, both creations by renowned artist Enrique Chiu. The event, held at the Centro Cultural El Refugio, was led by Mayor Laura Pérez Segura, who emphasized the importance of art as a tool for awareness and social connection.

The exhibition, open to the public for the next three months, provides an in-depth look at the migration phenomenon. Through his vibrant canvases, Chiu conveys stories of life, resilience, and the constant pursuit of opportunities by those who cross borders. This exhibition is part of a national tour aimed at raising public awareness about the challenges and dreams of migrants.

Complementing the exhibition, the Corazón de Tlaquepaque mural stands as a tribute to the municipality’s identity. Measuring 6 meters wide by 2.5 meters high, this artwork encapsulates the essence of the region through its artisans, traditions, and strong community spirit. This piece contributes to urban beautification efforts that reinforce residents’ sense of belonging.

The cultural event also featured a screening of the documentary Un Mundo sin Muros, directed by filmmaker Alejandro Argüelles and produced by Chiu. The film highlights the impact of art as a bridge between cultures and a form of resistance against the challenges of migration.

The event marked a new milestone in the Humanidad Migrante tour across Mexico, reaffirming art’s commitment to social awareness. The exhibition will continue its journey to different cities, spreading its message of unity and hope to more audiences.

Those interested in experiencing this artistic and thought-provoking exhibition can visit the Centro Cultural El Refugio until June 2025. Admission is free.
