The Importance of Getting The Flue Shot

Winter season is here and now it’s the appropriate time to get your flu shot and avoid influenza.

According to the Center of Disease Control, influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Serious outcomes of flu infection can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications.

Dr. Lwbba Chair, M.D. Pediatrician from Pioneers Memorial Hospital, invited the residents of Imperial Valley to get their flu shot soon so they can avoid many illness. Dr. Chait reminded that healthy people that it’s important to the flu shot every year to avoid influenza, especially for children and senior citizens who are the most vulnerable.

CDC estimates that since 2010, flu-related hospitalizations among children younger than 5 years ranged from 7,000 to 26,000 in the United States. Dr. Chait recommends parents to make sure children have all their vaccines taken care of aside from having their flu shot.
