The Ensenada International Film Festival (FICens) continues to expand its cultural influence in Baja California, bringing the best of independent cinema to new audiences. This year, Mercado Cine Curto in Mexicali joins the festival with a series of free screenings scheduled for Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, as confirmed by Caleb Triana Romero, Director of FICens.
This joint effort was made possible through the interest and support of Emilio Honold, programmer of Mercado Cine Curto, who facilitated the collaboration so that the Mexicali public can enjoy a selection of the most notable films from the 2023 edition of FICens.
On Saturday, September 28, the program will kick off at 7:00 p.m. with the screening of Goya, directed by Pablo Orta, which was awarded Best Picture in the most recent edition of the festival. At 9:00 p.m., Mephisto, written and directed by Cristian Proa, will be shown. On Sunday, September 29, attendees can enjoy Corazón de Mezquite at 5:00 p.m. and El Sapo de Cristal at 7:00 p.m.
Mercado Cine Curto, iconic for its history in cultural and gastronomic promotion, remains a key venue for the promotion of independent cinema in Baja California. This space, which blends creativity and culture, will offer visitors a unique cinematic experience enriched with special food and beverage options.
With these screenings, FICens and Mercado Cine Curto reinforce their commitment to showcasing and promoting independent cinema, while paving the way for the 2024 edition of FICens, which will be held from November 21 to 24 in Ensenada.
