The Curve of Active Cases in Baja California Could Descend

-Editorial

According to data provided by the Baja California Health Secretariat, December 7 was the date of the highest “peak” of suspected patients for Covid-19, which could be an indicator that a decline in the curve has begun. However, the population must continue with personal protection measures.

In this sense, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, reported that in the second wave there has been an “explosion” of both suspected and confirmed cases; and that in the graph of patients awaiting diagnosis, the period from December 13 to 15 is being monitored.

Dr. Pérez Rico expressed: “You decide, it is always up to us to be in the color red, orange-yellow (of the health traffic light), you decide, you want your lifestyle or the life of a friend or family member, you have to be co-responsible … in Baja California, we all take care of ourselves.”

The State Secretary of Health reiterated that people over 60 years of age, as well as those between 30 and 34 years old, are the age ranges with the most “confirmed” cases of the virus; he mentioned that this time, Baja California reports 39 cases of patients who died and 192 who were positive.

The Covid hospital occupancy in Baja California is 87.33%, with 95 beds available, 108 ventilators available, 562 hospitalized laboratory-confirmed patients, and 221 intubated.

During the virtual press briefing, they asked the Secretary of Health about the symptoms experienced with the Covid vaccine, which is already being applied in Mexico, to which he replied: “It is put on the non-dominant arm … it causes you something  of a pain, but the symptoms are not comparable to the benefits they can have … the vaccine can save your life, it is the most effective way to prevent severe disease, or it creates so many antibodies that it does not even give you.”

On the same subject of the vaccine he added: “You have to wait, the fact that they give you the vaccine does not mean that they cannot give you other diseases, nor does it mean that during the period that you generate antibodies you cannot get Covid, this vaccine is applied and then you get the reinforcement after the period of between 21 to 28 days.”

The Health Secretary asked the population to take care of themselves because, given the winter season, in addition to Covid, they are “fighting” with atypical pneumonia and added: “Covid is a viral lung disease, it gives you pneumonia for a virus, but when you are very sick, when your lung is affected, additionally you can get pneumonia due to bacteria.”
