The City of Tijuana Relocates Ready Lane Checkpoint to Improve Traffic Flow

-Editorial

The XXV Tijuana City Council has announced the relocation of a key checkpoint along Vía Rápida Oriente leading to the Ready Lane border crossing, as part of an initiative to improve traffic flow and maintain order in the area.

According to Apolinar Fernández Álvarez, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Mobility, Inspection, and Road Safety (SEMOVIS), the checkpoint, previously located near a car dealership at the corner of Xavier Villaurrutia Avenue, has been moved a few meters forward, now positioned near Salvador Novo Avenue.

“This adjustment allows for more effective vehicle flow management by positioning the checkpoint closer to the split where drivers choose between the bridge to Avenida Internacional or the Ready Lane,” Fernández Álvarez said.

To clearly define traffic lanes and ensure safety, the city installed barriers and lane dividers, while also increasing the presence of SEMOVIS traffic officers. The goal is to streamline the crossing process while enhancing safety and order in the area.

Authorities emphasized that the left and center lanes of Vía Rápida Oriente remain designated for drivers heading to the Ready Lane, while the right lane is reserved for those traveling toward Avenida Internacional or the city center.

The municipal government is urging drivers to proceed with caution and follow the directions of SEMOVIS officers stationed at the site, with the aim of reducing congestion and improving the overall driving experience along this major route.
