THE BAJA CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT PREPARES THE “ROUTE OF THE SEA” TO REACTIVATE THE ECONOMY

  • The value chain of fishermen, aquaculturists, and coastal communities will be strengthened.
  • The attraction will be the gastronomic, landscape, and climatic experience of the State’s coasts.

ENSENADA, B.C.- With the aim of stimulating the economy in Baja California when the pandemic caused by COVID19 ends, the Government headed by Jaime Bonilla Valdez, will launch the “Ruta del Mar”.

This was reported by the Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST), Mario Escobedo Carignan;“La Ruta del Mar” program, together with the “Guarantee Seal”, are actions linked to the fishing and aquaculture sector, through which they will seek to promote gastronomy, hotels, commerce and the offer of other services.

“We want to strengthen the value chain of fishermen and fish farmers, but also activate the economy as soon as possible in remote areas, by seeking to transmit culture with outdoor recreational and water sports, with sustainable activities,” he said.

It also seeks to generate other income for producers and residents of the delegations, add capital gains, investment and economic development, offering them training in tourism and the provision of services, in addition to promoting the consumption of local products.

With this, local and foreign tourists will be offered the best experience in gastronomy, visits to fishing, aquaculture and agricultural fields, sightings, surfing, diving, sport fishing, visits to cave paintings, camping and photography, among other options.

The main beneficiaries will be the fishing and aquaculture licensees, but also the owners of inns and restaurants, sport fishing owners, shops, hotels, winemakers, craft brewers, to name a few examples.

Regarding the “Guarantee Seal”, Escobedo Carignan pointed out that it is a program focused on traceability that links the productive effort with the final consumer, stimulating the preference for regional products.

“We want to promote the consumption of Baja California products, strengthen the value chain and combat illegal fishing at the same time,” he said.

For her part, the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Celina Domínguez García, indicated that these programs are eligible for fishing and aquaculture permit holders, marketers, shops, markets, fishmongers, restaurants, carts, inns and hotels.

The inscription in “The Seal of Guarantee”, she pointed out, will be a requirement to enter “The Sea Route”, in addition to having other supports such as participating in fairs and exhibitions, SEST incentives, training, activations and promotion in general.

In the same way, it will be necessary to work with tour operators, taking care of the sanitary measures for the control and access of tourists to the destinations, in activities that will be promoted with low concentrations of people.

As the sectors open up, after the pandemic, the promotion will be done from the inside out, so the “Ruta del Mar” will promote coexistence with the actors of the process and the products.

This will generate economic spillover in the most remote municipal delegations since tourists would stay, consume, and leave benefits with the practice of other touristic activities.

For this, there are different starting phases, which must be previously promoted with tour operators and other promoters.
