Soles de Mexicali Ready to Play Despite Pandemic

Live entertainment and sports have been the most affected by the pandemic but that won’t stop Soles de Mexicali from going for another championship during this upcoming season.

Soles de Mexicali will play the upcoming season but with modifications to ensure the safety to the players of the audience, according to the information given at a virtual press conference held on July 2nd.

Soles, the current champion, announced they are ready to play a different tournament and are committed give a good tournament.

Soles President Jose Carlos Cota said they have been working with local authorities to look for a venue where they can play in Mexicali. Cota said that only 12 teams decided to participate in this current tournament.

“We are working with the city to see if we can use the auditorium again and how many people can we allow into the venue,” Cota said, “If for some reason the authorities don’t allow us to use the venue, the league already told us they will help us find another city to play.”

Cota said they are analyzing several scenarios that include having the games closed doors or allow limited capacity.

“We know our tickets sales and merchandise will have an impact that’s why we are asking our sponsors to continue to supporting us and we want our fans to be proud of their team,” Cota said.

Coach Ivan Deniz will return as a coach for the upcoming season.

“This will be my 11th year with the team and even these are not normal times but need to continue being a competitive team and keep the confidence of the fans have given us throughout the years,” the coach said.
