Sheinbaum Announces Democratic Election of the Judiciary During Her First Visit as President

-Editorial

In a historic day for Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced during her first tour as the head of the federal Executive from Jantetelco, Morelos, that the Mexican people have decided that the Judiciary will be elected democratically. This declaration marks a significant step in the process of democratizing institutions in the country.

“The people decided that there should not only be democracy to elect the president, congressmen, and senators but now the Judiciary will be elected by the people of Mexico. And it will be this way because, in Mexico, those governments that served only a few are over,” said Sheinbaum. This statement reflects her administration’s commitment to the principles of Mexican Humanism and the Fourth Transformation, which aims to empower citizens in making key decisions that affect their daily lives.

During her speech, Sheinbaum emphasized that the “Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation is of the people, by the people, and for the people of Mexico.” Accompanied by the governor of Morelos, Margarita González Saravia, and other members of her cabinet, the President presented a series of Welfare Programs that will benefit the state’s residents.

One of the main announcements was the modernization of the irrigation districts in Morelos, a project aimed at improving agricultural productivity and ensuring potable water supply. Sheinbaum stressed that with these improvements, surplus water will be allocated to community supplies, helping to resolve the scarcity affecting many localities. Additionally, she committed to modernizing and expanding roads like the Tierra y Libertad, which is currently in deplorable condition.

The President also announced the start of door-to-door registration for the Pension for the Well-Being of Older Adults, which will begin on October 7, initially covering women aged 63 to 64, followed by those aged 60 to 63. This program is part of a broader effort that includes the implementation of a new universal scholarship called “Rita Cetina Gutiérrez,” aimed at students in public primary schools.

“Our national service workers will visit all older adults aged 65 and over. They will administer a questionnaire and ask about their health situation,” Sheinbaum explained. She also announced that new Wellness Pharmacies would be built and that more than 20,000 health professionals would be hired to provide direct care in the homes of older adults.

The commitment of Sheinbaum’s federal government to strengthen the health system in the country was also a key point during her speech. “Thanks to the work of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Mexico now has a great health system with IMSS-Bienestar, which will continue to consolidate in the next six years,” she added.

Governor González Saravia expressed her firm commitment to support the Welfare Programs presented by the President. “We will support all Welfare Programs that will bring greater benefits to the state, including support for people with disabilities and the creation of educational programs,” she emphasized, reiterating her collaboration with the federal government.

Ariadna Montiel Reyes, Secretary of Welfare, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support those in greatest need. She announced that the door-to-door census will start on October 7 for the Well-Being Pension and health care for older adults, ensuring that the President’s promise will be fulfilled.

Julio Berdegué Sacristán, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, detailed that Irrigation District 16 will join the National Irrigation Modernization Plan, to recover nearly eight million cubic meters of water through the modernization of 9,500 hectares. The “Harvesting Sovereignty” program will also be launched to support small and medium producers in marketing their products.

Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport, presented important ongoing projects, including the construction of a vehicle bridge that will connect the highway with the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), generating nearly 1,000 direct jobs. Additionally, improvements will be made to the Tierra y Libertad circuit, generating approximately 14,400 jobs in 15 municipalities.

Finally, Mario Delgado Carrillo, Secretary of Public Education, announced that the new “Rita Cetina Gutiérrez” scholarship will benefit 81,000 secondary school students in Morelos, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment that education is a fundamental right for all Mexicans. “We will start in two weeks, and we will visit all public secondary schools,” he stated, indicating that welfare efforts will also focus on education as an essential pillar for the country’s transformation.
