CONMEBOL has confirmed that Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning artist Shakira will make history as the first musical performer during the halftime of the Copa América final, the oldest and most exciting national team tournament in the world. The final will take place on Sunday, July 14, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Shakira, whose performances at major global events like the Super Bowl and three FIFA World Cups have already made her an icon in the sports world, will return to the stage with a mix of her well-known anthems and latest hits.
“Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world. Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, turning her art into a global phenomenon that crosses borders and is enjoyed by millions of people. We are confident that her performance at the Copa América USA 2024™ final will amplify the message of healthy passion and unity through sport,” said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL.
The final of the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024 will be held on Sunday, July 14, at 8:00 PM local time, with more than 54,000 fans expected to attend at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Following the success of her new album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” one of the most streamed albums of the year, Shakira will embark on her highly anticipated world tour of the same name with 17 concerts across the United States, starting on November 2 in Palm Desert, CA.
The 2024 Copa América is the 48th edition of the Copa América, the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship organized by South America’s football ruling body, CONMEBOL. The tournament is being held in the United States from June 20 to July 14, 2024, and is co-organized by CONCACAF.
This is the second time the United States is hosting the tournament, having previously hosted the Copa América Centenario in 2016. Argentina is the defending champion. The final will be played on July 14, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The 2024 Copa América was initially expected to be hosted by Ecuador due to CONMEBOL’s host rotation order. However, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez stated that while Ecuador had been nominated, it was not chosen to organize the edition. In November 2022, Ecuador declined to host the tournament. Both Peru and the United States expressed interest in organizing the tournament. On January 27, 2023, it was announced that as part of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL’s new strategic partnership, the United States would host the tournament with six CONCACAF guest teams qualifying through the 2023–24 CONCACAF Nations League. The tournament also acts as a prelude to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will co-host along with Canada and Mexico.
