SENATOR VICTOR HERMOSILLO TAKES PRESIDENCY OF THE COMMITTEE OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

The plenary of the Senate of the Republic approved with 67 votes in favor and 18 against, the agreement of Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) from which senator Victor Hermosillo was appointed as President of the Commission of Foreign Relations International Organizations.

The legislator for Baja California thanked the support of the diverse parliamentary groups when proposing him as president of this commission; “I assume this new responsibility with great commitment,” he said.

Negotiations of important international instruments will conclude in the coming months. It is expected that in 2018 the negotiations of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will conclude, which seeks to recognize the contributions of migrants for development; In addition, it is intended to adopt a treaty for the absolute proscription of nuclear weapons.

The International Relations Commission of the Senate of the Republic will be responsible for following up on the activity that the Federal Executive deploys in forums of dialogue, cooperation and negotiation of multilateral instruments. In addition to this, it’s its responsibility to analyze the instruments they need to vote for.
