To promote the integration and active participation of innovation centers in the economic development challenges of Baja California, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Honold Morales, visited three key centers in Ensenada and Tijuana. These centers are part of the CI Baja Network, which includes 33 centers specialized in various areas of science and technology.
During his tour, Honold Morales emphasized that the CI Baja Network, a program of the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), aims to highlight the infrastructure, capabilities, and talent of the state’s innovation centers, facilitating their connection with the business sector. “There is great potential to expand these connections. We will continue promoting capabilities, success stories, and trust in data protection and intellectual property to integrate SMEs into the industries,” said the Secretary.

CICESE: Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada
At CICESE, Honold Morales met with Dr. David Covarrubias Rosales, Director of the institution, and Dr. Alexei Fedorovish Licea Navarro, Director of Innovation and Development. During the visit, innovations in early autism detection and vital signs measurement were presented, as well as collaborations with public institutions and business alliances.
CITEDI: Center for Research and Development of Digital Technology
At CITEDI, part of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the laboratories of Data Science, Intelligent Computing, and High-Performance Computing were explored. The Director, Dr. Julio César Rolón Garrido, and the Academic Deputy Director, Dr. Sergio Jesús González Ambriz, explained the research in dynamic systems and control, quantum computing, and modern telecommunications, in addition to the master’s and doctoral programs in Digital Systems.
CIIA: Industrial Innovation Center for the Aerospace Sector
Finally, at the CIIA located on the TecNM campus in Tijuana, Honold Morales met with Director Guillermo Cárdenas López, Coordinator Francisco Velázquez, and Alfred Rodríguez, Mexico Ambassador of the Industry of the Future Alliance. They discussed innovation and product development services to accelerate technological adoption in companies and visited laboratories equipped with 4.0 technologies for training in the aerospace sector.
The SEI delegation also included the Deputy Secretary of Investment Management, Rodolfo Andrade Pelayo, the Director of Innovation and Technology, Dulce Rodríguez López, and the Network Coordinator, Alejandra Guerrero González.
