On Thursday, May 12, 2016 SDSU – Imperial Valley will hold its 56th Commencement.
The Processional will commence at 7 PM on the Campus Quad.  The guest speaker will be Fernando de Necochea, retired Provost and Assistant to the Dean at Stanford University. Fernando’s family has historical ties to Calexico. There will be a private reception for him prior to the Commencement.

This year, there will be over 335 degrees conferred.  The largest division of graduates will receive their degrees in Criminal Justice – 98, followed by Phycology with 91. Graduating with honors – 10 Summa Cum Laude, 11 with Magna Cum Laude and 19 Cum Laude.

Awards will be given to – Ms. Lauren A. Dial, Academic Excellence, Mr. David Ray Hartfield III, Outstanding Graduate and Most Influential Faculty, Dr. Dianna Verzi.

Also, walking across the Dais will be the 1st graduating class of the IVUP program (Imperial Valley University Partnership).  Thanks to a contribution of a pledge made by Centinela, IVUP students with a 3.7 or higher GPA were eligible for a scholarship that covers all tuition and fees that were not already covered by other resources such as financial aid. Each scholarship award is applicable for 2 consecutive years and worth more than $8,500.  The program attendees’ retention rate is outstanding; the average percentage of students who continue after year one is 93%.  The IVUP students graduating this year have an estimated graduation rate of 75%.
