Washington, D.C. (February 9, 2017)—Congressman Juan Vargas released this statement following the deportation of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos:
“The deportation of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos is heartbreaking and alarming. After showing up to her regularly scheduled appointment with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Ms. Garcia de Rayos was not able to go back home with her children, instead, she was separated from her family and deported to Mexico.
This unfortunate situation appears to be a direct effect of the recent immigration policy changes made by the Trump Administration. Due to lack of clarity and lack of transparency coming from the Administration, it is unclear as to how the policy changes are being implemented across the country or how they will impact our community.
It is important, now more than ever, for individuals to stay informed and consult immigration lawyers or organizations to have an accurate and clear understanding of how changes to immigration policies will directly affect them and their loved ones. We must strive to keep families together, not tear them apart.”
