-Editorial

As part of the ProBaja economic promotion alliance, the Government of the State of Baja California met with over 20 companies, as well as trade chambers and officials, during the SEMICON West 2024 event. This specialized event for the semiconductor industry was organized by the United States Embassy in Mexico, according to Rodolfo Andrade Pelayo, Deputy Secretary for Investment Management of the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI).

The event took place from July 9 to 11 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. It brought together participants from the global electronics supply chain within the semiconductor ecosystem to address opportunities and challenges in areas such as market intelligence, standards, sustainability, and workforce development.

Promoting the state as a significant player in the industry and an active part of the Mexico-United States alliance, the event highlighted the competitive advantages, infrastructure, talent development strategy, and the base of advanced electronics companies contributing to the regional supply chain.

“Participation in key events strengthens the megaregion that includes Baja California, California, and Arizona as a strategic hub in the semiconductor industry, promoting cross-border collaboration and the integration of supply chains among these regions,” the official added.

In addition to engaging with companies at the event, there were meetings and events with the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (AMCHAM), those convened by the United States Embassy in Mexico, including the Arizona Commerce Authority, and others organized by the Consul General of Mexico in San Francisco, Vicente Margarito Sánchez Ventura, and Consul for Economic Affairs, Úrsula Amanda Rojas Weiser.

Participation in SEMICON West 2024 has reaffirmed the commitment to active promotion for the region, focused on strengthening and integrating new foreign allies. This will continue to drive investment and economic development in Baja California, leveraging competitive advantages and creating a favorable environment for the semiconductor industry.
