Los Amigos de la Comunidad, Inc. (LADLC) of Brawley announces the unveiling of the portable Patriotic Civic Engagement Mural on Thursday, July 4th, at the Calipatria 4th of July Celebration. The mural, created by award-winning artist Elizabeth M. Ibarra, will travel to various locations throughout Imperial Valley, which will be announced later, for public viewing and photo opportunities. This unique artwork is part of the Viva Maze Civic Engagement Arts Project, funded by a Far South/Border North grant.
Elizabeth M. Ibarra, an award-winning fine artist, art instructor, artisan crystal jewelry designer, and singer-songwriter, has been honored as a Distinguished Artist of Calexico. She creates painted acrylic works on canvas, furniture, clothing, and murals. Her artwork has been sold and featured in gallery shows in both the USA and Mexico. Ibarra has lived in various places in the U.S. where the arts are an integral part of the culture and has traveled in Europe, lived in Greece, and resided in cities in Mexico including San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, and Mexicali. Her artwork is deeply influenced by ancient myths, folklore, music, artifacts, traditional crafts, fauna, flora, and vibrant cultural references. Elizabeth resides in El Centro, CA with her husband, a singer-songwriter and renowned John Lennon impersonator, and their son, an aspiring child artist.
The Viva Maze Civic Engagement Arts Project will provide additional activities during the celebration, including arts & crafts, games, cosplayers, live entertainment, face painting, and other civic engagement-themed activities. The mural is part of a campaign by Los Amigos in collaboration with the Far South Border North organization, which promotes voting and civic engagement. This event is free and open to the public, offering fun for the whole family.
