PMHD welcomes new physician, technology

BRAWLEY —  Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District, an affiliate of Scripps Health, celebrated National Radiologic Technology Week, earlier this month, which is celebrated annually to recognize the vital work of all imaging staff.

The week-long celebration called attention to the important role that medical imaging professionals play in patient care and healthcare safety.

At PIONEERS, the radiology staff became the first team in the Imperial Valley to administer 3D mammograms in order to meet the increasing demand for early detection in breast cancer.

Now, the department is set to welcome a new PET/ CT (Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography) machine on Nov. 16, further strengthening the quality of service to patients at PIONEERS.

PET/CT images can provide important information about many conditions affecting the heart, brain and other organs, which will help doctors plan appropriate treatment.

Additionally, PMHD proudly welcomed Jonathan Blevins, a diagnostic radiologist, specializing in musculoskeletal imaging.

Dr. Blevins holds a certification by the American Board of Radiology and is also a member of the American College of Radiology. The physician comes to Pioneers Memorial Hospital with six years post-training experience after completing his clinical fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the University of California, San Francisco.

A native of Bay Village, Ohio, Dr. Blevins received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University where he played varsity football, holding down the position of quarterback.

Following his stint as a Tiger, Dr. Blevins went on to obtain his master’s degree in physiology and biophysics, and later a medical degree from Georgetown University before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to complete his residency in diagnostic radiology.

Dr. Blevins is now a specialist in his field and routinely performs musculoskeletal interventional procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic joint injections, and employs advanced techniques for joint and spine imaging.

Living nearby with his wife and their dog, Dr. Blevins is honored and excited to bring his expertise to Pioneers Memorial Hospital and all Imperial County residents.
