PMHD, IVC partner for students’ health and wellbeing

IMPERIAL.- In an effort to improve the quality of life for students at Imperial Valley College, Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District along with more than 30 other local agencies came together for the fall 2018 Student Health and Wellness Fair here a few days ago.

The three-hour event offered IVC students an opportunity to receive a wide range of complementary health screenings including flu vaccines, blood pressure, and cholesterol screenings, blood-glucose tests for diabetes and nutritional consultations.

All consultations and screenings were conducted under the oversight of a PIONEERS professional healthcare provider at no charge to the students.

The fair is held twice each school year as a way to give college students an opportunity to learn what services are available to them in the Imperial Valley.

Attending agencies included Imperial County Behavioral Health, American Red Cross, Ventanilla de Salud and many more, who all distributed educational and informational items to the students as well as giveaways and raffle items.

The fair was a coordinated effort between Imperial Valley College and PIONEERS as a way to help improve the quality of life of Imperial Valley junior college students.

Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District is committed to helping improve the health of the IVC community and also currently operates the Imperial Valley College Student Health Center.

The Center provides basic health services such as first aid and cares for minor illnesses to students as well as health education and nutritional programs.

Student participation in the health center is voluntary and is covered by low-cost fees of $19 for both Fall and Spring semesters and $15 for Summer and Winter sessions.
