PIONEERS earns achievement honor from state

Local healthcare district receives Smart Care California achievement

(BRAWLEY) — Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District, an affiliate of Scripps Health, is proud to announce it received a 2018 achievement award from Smart Care California, which is a public-private partnership that promotes safe and accessible health care for all Californians.

Smart Care honored PIONEERS for meeting or surpassing the Healthy People 2020 target for low-risk, first-birth Cesarean sections (C-sections).

By reaching this target, the PIONEERS team helped in delivering safer and more affordable care for Californians.

“PIONEERS is honored by the recognition and proud to have played a role in the health and well-being of the residents of the Imperial Valley and the State of California,” stated Larry Lewis, PMHD CEO. “We sincerely thank the physicians, nurses, midwives and other clinical staff who have made this achievement possible.”

To receive this 2018 Smart Care California award, PIONEERS must have achieved a C-section rate of 23.9 percent or lower for low-risk, first-birth deliveries. The award is based on 2017 Patient Discharge Data from the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development linked to Birth Certificate Data from the California Department of Public Health-Vital Records, based on Joint Commission specifications, provided by Cal Hospital Compare.

This is the third year Smart Care California has honored hospitals that have met or surpassed the 23.9 percent target for low-risk, first-birth C-sections.

This year, the group recognized 122 hospitals that achieved the goal, which is up from the 111 recognized in 2017.
