MEXICALI, B.C.- The State Administration headed by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, through the Secretary of Tourism of the State (SECTURE), recorded a record attendance in 2018 of more than 281 thousand visitors, called “Snow Birds”, to the town of Los Algodones in Mexicali, also known as “La Ciudad Molar”.
The delegate of SECTURE in Mexicali, Eloy Moreno Méndez, declared “the visitors correspond to third age foreigners coming from the United States who cross by the border town of Vicente Guerrero and bring economic benefits of 40 million dollars in the city”.
The state official added that it has been named the Molar City since it is the town with the most dental offices per square meter in the world, accounting for around 300 places that provide orthodontic treatments, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, among other procedures with up to 70% more affordable prices compared to their home country.
The delegate said that located a few meters from the border between Mexicali and Arizona, United States, Los Algodones is the medical destination of excellence that every year strives to attract a greater number of visitors.
The “Snow Birds” are people who arrive mainly from American states such as Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, as well as from Canadian provinces such as British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchawan. They are foreigners who flee the frigid temperatures and reach the warm climate of Mexicali interested in a medical procedure.
