The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and El Centro, CA bestowed one of its highest honors to Dr. Sandra Kofford; the prestigious National Ohtli Award. The Ohtli Award recognizes Mexican, Mexican-American, or Latino leaders whose efforts have contributed significantly to the empowerment of Mexican communities abroad. Ohtli is a Náhuatl word that means “pathway” in English, or “camino” in Spanish.

Dr. Kofford has been the Senior Director of Imperial County Office of Education’s Migrant Education Program since 2007. The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is a federally funded program, authorized under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 designed to provide supplementary educational and support services to identified migrant students.  Currently Region 6 enrollment is approximately 7,754 migrant students ages 3-21.
