In a ceremony held at the AUKA Hall of the State Center for the Arts (CEART), Mayor Norma Bustamante delivered her third State of the City Address. Before public officials, business leaders, and community representatives, Bustamante highlighted her administration’s achievements and progress in the five main areas of her government: Safe and Peaceful Mexicali, Mexicali Grows, Wellbeing for All, Governing to Serve, and Gender Equality.
In her speech, the mayor emphasized that security remains one of the greatest concerns of the public. To address this challenge, she mentioned strengthening the Peace and Security Coordination Table and providing full uniforms and body cameras to municipal police officers.
Bustamante also highlighted the expansion of food distribution and the organization of brigades to offer free services to vulnerable communities in the city and the valley. In the Wellbeing for All area, she noted that over 27 million pesos have been invested in economic support for students, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in vulnerable situations.
In the Mexicali Grows area, the mayor reported the implementation of the largest LED lighting replacement program in the municipality’s history, with an investment of 270 million pesos to replace 40,000 sodium lamps. She also mentioned progress in revitalizing the Historic Center and the “La Chinesca” neighborhood, including infrastructure improvements, cultural festivals, and culinary tours.
Additionally, Bustamante revealed a historic annual budget of over 6.11 billion pesos allocated for public works and service improvements under the Governing to Serve axis. Regarding Gender Equality, she highlighted the creation of spaces to prevent and eradicate gender violence, including the Women’s Justice Station in Valle de Puebla.
The mayor thanked Governor Marina del Pilar for her support and all sectors of society for their trust, which allowed her to be re-elected as mayor. “Let us move forward, continue joining efforts, and build a Mexicali that we can all be very proud of,” Bustamante concluded.
