“No Reason for Concern”: President Sheinbaum Stresses Unity and Confidence in U.S.-Mexico Relations Post-Election

-Editorial

Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, has firmly expressed that there is no reason for concern following the recent election results in the United States, emphasizing her commitment to maintaining a strong and positive relationship with the neighboring country.

During her morning conference, Sheinbaum conveyed a message of reassurance to Mexican citizens and businesspeople, stating that once the results are official, the Mexican government will begin a constructive dialogue with the new U.S. authorities.

“There will be dialogue, which is why I say there is no reason for concern,” Sheinbaum affirmed, emphasizing her administration’s willingness to establish smooth communication and strengthen bilateral ties. The President highlighted the importance of instilling confidence in both the financial markets and the general public, underscoring Mexico’s internal unity and economic strength. “Confidence for the markets, confidence for everyone, and we are going to stand together in this because here there are no differences. There may be other issues with internal differences—that’s what democracy is for—but in this case, there is much unity, much strength in the Mexican economy, and a clear understanding of how we complement each other in our commercial relationship.”

Sheinbaum noted that the economic relationship between Mexico and the United States is highly important, as it strengthens both countries and allows for complementary integration rather than direct competition. She assured that her administration would work closely with the Mexican business sector and U.S. investors in the country, promoting collaboration in strategic areas that benefit both economies.

Additionally, Sheinbaum highlighted that the Mexican government will continue fostering dialogue with the United States on issues critical to the security of both nations, such as migration, drug trafficking, and arms trafficking. She indicated that these issues will remain central to the bilateral agenda, reaffirming her commitment to joint efforts to address challenges affecting both borders.

“To all Mexicans, there is no reason for concern; to our compatriots, their families here, and Mexican businesspeople, there is no reason for concern,” Sheinbaum reiterated. She added confidently that Mexico always moves forward, emphasizing that the country is free, independent, and sovereign, qualities that will allow it to maintain a good relationship with the United States. “Mexico always moves forward; we are a free, independent, and sovereign country, and there will be a good relationship with the United States—I am convinced of it.”

This message comes at a time of uncertainty for many Mexicans closely observing political changes in the United States. Former President Trump has also stated he would impose tariffs on Mexico if it fails to control drug trafficking and illegal migration.

In a statement on X, President  Sheinbaum wrote, “I express my sincerest congratulations to Donald Trump, who emerged as the winner of the United States presidential election. On behalf of Mexico, we recognize the American people for their democratic participation in the election process. I am confident that we will continue working together in a coordinated manner, with dialogue and respect for our sovereignties, to move forward on the broad bilateral agenda that connects us.”
