WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) commented the Capital Gazette and their strength in fulfilling a vow to publish the June 29th paper. In honor of the lives taken, NAHJ will include assistant editor and columnist Rob Hiaasen, special publications editor Wendi Winters, writer John McNamara, editorial page editor Gerald Fischman and sales assistant Rebecca Smith during the upcoming ‘In Memoriam’ at the Hall of Fame Gala next week in Miami, during the NAHJ annual conference.
“Regardless of a journalist’s skin color, heritage or background, these are our people,” said Brandon Benavides, NAHJ President. “NAHJ stands with the Capital Gazette.”
Anyone wishing to help support the journalists of the paper can donate to the official GoFundMe. The fundraiser plans to help the Capital Gazette staff pay for ‘medical bills, funeral costs, newsroom repairs, and any other unforeseen expenses that might have arisen as a result of this terrible shooting last month.
