New politics of the European Parliament have ruled about a new document requirement for travelers entering the European Union from Mexico, and other Latin American countries in 2020. This is the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System), a permit for travelers, which will serve as a temporary visa, valid for 90 days.
The intention is to have greater immigration control, as well as updated databases on people entering the Schengen Zone, consisting of 24 countries of the European continent, including France, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, among others.
The new permit will cost 7 euros and will be online on the official website etiasvisa.com, which includes biographical data, such as nationality, and residence time, as well as proof of income, and reasons for travel, dates, and itineraries of the countries in the European Union to visit. All with the purpose to capture information that establishes whether a traveler is eligible or not.
The ETIAS certificate will be valid for 3 years of use, together with the expiration of a passport, so if a Mexican passport expires, the ETIAS will be automatically canceled. It is recommended to check the European Union website, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico (SRE) to verify the viability of your scheduled trip during 2020.
