- San Felipe Boxer puts on high the name of Mexicali after being crowned as boxing world champion.
Mexicali, B.C.- On behalf of one million Mexicali residents, the city mayor Gustavo Sánchez Vásquez, congratulated the boxer from the port of San Felipe, Elwin “La flea” Soto, who was champion of the World Boxing Council, mini flyweight; defeating the Puerto Rican, Angel “Tito” Acosta, in a fight held in Indio, California.
The municipal mayor stressed that from today the athlete is an example for young people of this capital because with his triumph he has put Mexicali very high, showing that “Cachanillas” continue to have a very important place in sports.
Gustavo Sánchez Vásquez, motivated Elwin Soto, to be a role model for young people, particularly for those who, for some reason, have strayed from the path and who need an impulse to succeed in life, and realize that there are no limits for those who persevere.
On the other hand, the City Mayor expressed to the boxer that, with this achievement, today he is compensated for all the years of preparation, training and hard work done in the Boxing School of San Felipe.
In this regard, “La Pulga” Soto said he was proud to have fulfilled this dream in his career, which positions him as the world champion of boxing and puts on high the name of San Felipe.
During the meeting that took place in the Office of the Municipal Presidency, Mayor Gustavo Sánchez Vásquez presented a recognition from the Municipal Government to the boxer, who was accompanied by his coach Agustin Pacheco, as well as the Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture (IMDECUF), Julio César León Ortega.
