Baseball enthusiasts, mark your calendars! Mexicali is set to host the Caribbean Series 2025 for the second time in its history at the iconic Nido de los Águilas. The premier Caribbean baseball tournament will unite the best professional teams from across Latin America, promising an electrifying display of talent and sportsmanship.
This marks the 67th edition of the event, originally planned for San Juan, Puerto Rico, but rescheduled to Mexicali due to logistical adjustments. Mexicali last hosted the tournament in 2009, when Venezuela’s Tigres de Aragua clinched the championship.
On November 22nd, a press conference was held at the Nido de los Águilas, where Dio Alberto Murillo, owner of Águilas de Mexicali, joined Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante to share details about the highly anticipated Caribbean Series 2025.
Mayor Norma Bustamante highlighted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate roads near the stadium and city entrances, as well as enhancing waste collection services. “Mexicali is ready and will meet expectations for the Caribbean Series 2025,” she stated.
Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced that around 200,000 visitors are expected in the region during the series. She assured the public of adequate hotel capacity through partnerships with Imperial Valley and surrounding areas. “We invite all residents to promote our city and welcome visitors,” she added.
“Many cities raise their hands to host the Caribbean Series. This is the most important event in Latin America, and we are going to host it. Here in Mexicali, we should feel very proud,” emphasized the governor.
Murillo said that the Chambers of Commerce in Imperial Valley have joined the efforts and be part of this event.
“They are our neighbors, they are our brothers, and we include them the best we can,” Murillo said and added he will be visiting Los Angeles during the first week of December to promote the event.
To provide an unforgettable experience for the 200,000 people who will visit the Cachanilla capital and enjoy this baseball event from January 31 to February 7, 2025, the Baja California Department of Urban and Territorial Development (SIDURT) has been working on the remodeling and rehabilitation of the sports venue, the governor reported.
According to SIDURT, various improvements were made to transform Mexicali’s Nido de Águilas into an international-level stadium. These include remodeling the façade, rehabilitating the esplanade, installing new lighting, placing new seating, and constructing several areas, including restrooms, tunnels, entry thresholds, stairs, and a new perimeter wall.
The event concluded with the presentation of commemorative jerseys for the 2025 Caribbean Series to local officials. The jerseys will be worn by Mexicali’s Águilas team during the series.
The speakers expressed pride in hosting this prestigious event in Mexicali, highlighting the city’s readiness to welcome baseball fans from across Latin America. They emphasized the tournament’s significant economic benefits, including increased tourism, job creation, and international exposure for Mexicali.
The lineup for the highly anticipated Caribbean Series 2025 has been finalized, featuring the four core member nations of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CPBC): Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Organizers also announced that Japan will join the tournament as the guest team, adding a new layer of international competition to the event.
This tournament is renowned for showcasing the region’s passion for baseball, blending fierce competition with cultural exchange. Mexicali’s hosting of the 2025 edition reaffirms its status as a key player in international baseball, ready to welcome thousands of fans and athletes for an unforgettable experience.
