Mexicali, B.C. – This Saturday, June 7, the emblematic Plaza de Toros Calafia will once again become the epicenter of flavor, music, and local culture with the much-anticipated return of the “Summer Food & Beer Fest,” one of the region’s most outstanding gastronomic events.
Organized by FEX Mexicali, the festival reaches its second edition with a renewed proposal that promises to exceed last year’s expectations. At a press conference, Ismael Castro, director of FEX, stated that this festival not only celebrates the region’s rich culinary offerings, but also forms part of a policy to support and boost local entrepreneurs promoted by Mayor Norma Bustamante.
“We are joining forces with local entrepreneurs to carry out this celebration dedicated to the people of Mexicali, and with it, also celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Plaza de Toros Calafia,” said Castro, highlighting the importance of strengthening the local economy through cultural and gastronomic tourism.
The event will feature multiple themed stages, where different musical genres will be presented, from rock to norteño, guaranteeing entertainment for all tastes. The atmosphere will be completely transformed to offer a unique sensory experience under Mexicali’s summer sky.
Among the local artists and bands performing at the event, a combination of emerging talent and established groups is expected, also seeking to open space for independent musicians, many of whom were born in Mexicali, the capital of Baja California.
The main attraction of the “Summer Food & Beer Fest” is undoubtedly its gastronomic offering. More than 40 culinary exhibitors will participate, offering everything from typical Baja Californian food to international options, fusion, desserts, and vegan dishes. The diversity and quality of the proposals reflect the growth of the foodie movement in the region.
As a novelty, this year presents the first edition of the Copa Cervecera, a competition among 23 local craft breweries competing for prizes for the top three beers. This contest aims to highlight the evolution of craft beer in Mexicali, a city already considered the cradle of this movement in Baja California.
“We want to position Mexicali as one of the great references for craft beer in Mexico,” said Armando Tapia, organizer of the Copa Cervecera, who explained that the beers will be evaluated by certified judges under international standards.
Kenia Vidal, representative of Chicali Brewers, added that these types of platforms are fundamental for the sector’s growth and for showcasing new craft beer talents.
Pre-sale access tickets are available at an affordable price of 270 pesos, and VIP tickets cost 980 pesos. They can be purchased through https://ticketnauta.com/en-US and at several partner establishments.
Also present at the press conference were Armando Tapia, organizer of the Copa Cervecera; Kenia Vidal, from Chicali Brewers; Alan Valenzuela, president of CANIRAC Mexicali; and Emmanuel González, from Pericolectiver.
In addition to FEX and the Mexicali City Government, the festival also has the support of institutions such as CANIRAC Mexicali, represented by its president Alan Valenzuela, and cultural collectives like Pericolectiver, with Emmanuel González as one of the main promoters.
The event also represents an opportunity to reactivate local tourism, attract visitors from neighboring cities such as Calexico, San Luis, and Tijuana, and project Mexicali as an emerging capital of alternative entertainment in northwestern Mexico.
The “Summer Food & Beer Fest 2025” is more than a festival: it is a celebration of local talent, cachanilla identity, and the power of collaboration between government, business owners, and the community. With music, unique flavors, craft beer, and an unmatched atmosphere, this June 7 promises to be a night to remember.
Get your glass ready, invite your friends, and come enjoy summer in Mexicali like never before!
