Tijuana’s Mayor, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, officially launched the Rehabilitation Program for the Historic Center of Tijuana, reflecting the administration’s commitment to developing infrastructure that supports the city’s economic, social, and urban growth.
Before embarking on a cultural and artistic tour of the newly inaugurated pedestrian walkway on Avenida Revolución, the Mayor emphasized the leadership of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and the collaborative efforts between the state and municipality to implement impactful projects that enhance Tijuana’s appeal.
“This is a dream come true, a space for walking, gathering, and strengthening recreational activities. This is just the first phase of a significant project on Avenida Revolución, a cultural heritage site of Tijuana,” he stated.
Burgueño Ruiz explained that this new image for the iconic avenue will allow families to safely enjoy local attractions such as artisan markets and dining options, while also supporting local commerce.
He noted that during his transition to the Mayor’s office, he planned initiatives like the ones now coming to fruition, envisioning the best three years in Tijuana’s history.
Mayor Ismael Burgueño has made it clear that he intends to transform this new responsibility into a period of increased development and well-being for the residents of Tijuana.
Carlos Torres Torres, head of the Strategic Projects Coordination in Tijuana, highlighted the swift action taken by Mayor Burgueño shortly after assuming office, noting the deployment of cleanup crews that removed ten tons of waste from the city center, stating, “This shows a commitment to making things happen.”
Torres also mentioned that the Mayor recently inaugurated a Trust composed of individuals tasked with developing Tijuana’s most significant projects in culture, architecture, design, commerce, and buildings, consisting of people who foster innovation and creativity for the city.
The event was attended by Municipal Government Secretary Arnulfo Guerrero León; State Secretary of Culture Alma Delia Ábrego Ceballos; Central Zone Delegate José Luis Portillo Reyes; and Héctor Bustamante, head of the Historic Center Trust.
During the tour of Avenida Revolución, Mayor Ismael Burgueño greeted local vendors and, as part of the cultural program, visited various stations, including Tijuana Circus, Danza Jorge Domínguez, Wine and Paint, and Danzón, Opera de Tijuana, culminating in a concert by Frida Vázquez de la Sota.
