-Editorial

As part of the XXV Tijuana City Council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen a binational agenda that addresses issues affecting both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz held a key meeting with Mariza Marín, Director of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP). The purpose of this meeting, which took place at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office at the San Ysidro port of entry, was to reaffirm the ties of brotherhood and collaboration between the two neighboring nations.

During their discussion, Mayor Burgueño and Director Marín reviewed and analyzed several critical topics, with a primary focus on streamlining border crossings and incorporating new technologies to improve the efficiency and security of these processes. Both officials emphasized the importance of cooperation between Tijuana and U.S. authorities to address shared challenges and seize opportunities that enhance economic growth and development in the border region.

Mayor Burgueño reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure, particularly those related to the movement of people, goods, and services across the border. “We will continue to reinforce collaboration with authorities on the other side of the border, tackling shared issues together. It is essential to contribute to the economic growth of this significant mega-region. Our government is focused on adding value and creating well-being for its citizens,” the Mayor stated.

This strategic meeting aligns with the broader vision of the XXV Tijuana City Council, which is dedicated to fostering stronger cross-border ties that benefit both Mexico and the United States. Mayor Burgueño has been a vocal advocate for creating policies that not only promote efficient and secure border operations but also improve the quality of life for residents on both sides of the border. This includes ensuring that the economic, social, and cultural exchanges that define this unique mega-region can continue to thrive.

To support these goals, the Mayor’s delegation included several key members of the Tijuana City Council: Arnulfo Guerrero León, the Municipal Government Secretary; Pedro Montejo Peterson, Secretary of Economic Development; and Óscar Higuera Betancourt, Director of Economic Promotion. Together, they presented a unified front in advocating for stronger binational cooperation.

On the U.S. side, Mariza Marín was joined by key figures from her office, including Liaison Chief Ricardo Corral and Liaison Supervisors Juan Araiza, Ernesto Gutiérrez, and Andrés Shadlak, along with assistant Marie Tabucbuc. The presence of these officials highlighted the importance of maintaining open lines of communication and cooperation between both countries.

By continuing to promote and implement these collaborative efforts, Tijuana and its U.S. counterparts can address common concerns more effectively, particularly in areas like border security, trade, and infrastructure development. The meeting between Mayor Burgueño and Director Marín marked another step forward in ensuring that the U.S.-Mexico border region remains a vibrant, dynamic area of growth and opportunity for all.
