MANA de Imperial Valley Announces Availability of Scholarships for High School and Imperial Valley College

-Editorial

MANA de Imperial Valley, a local chapter of a National Latina Organization, is offering competitive college and university scholarships to local Imperial Valley high school seniors and two Imperial Valley College students. The Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) recently presented a $10,000 grant to MANA de Imperial Valley for the organization’s college scholarship program. The grant will support scholarships for college students, supplying them each with the financial support to cover costs for tuition, books, housing, and other expenses. Scholarships will be awarded to students selected by the MANA de Imperial Valley chapter.

Applications are available at http://www.ivmana.org/scholarships.html and local high school websites. The application postmark deadline to submit completed applications is Friday, April 15, 2022.

Rosyo Ramirez, MANA de Imperial Valley President stated, “MANA de Imperial Valley is committed to supporting students in furthering their education and in recognizing outstanding students in our community. The generous support of agencies such as the Southern California Gas Company has allowed MANA de Imperial Valley to continue providing local scholarships to students who are pursuing higher education. We strongly encourage local students to apply for a scholarship.”

“We are thankful to have this opportunity to support MANA and their scholarships program. SoCalGas recognizes the need to reduce equity gaps in education and the necessity for access to higher education for all,” stated Deborah McGarrey, Public Affairs Manager at SoCalGas.

MANA is offering three different categories of scholarships: 1) The College Scholarship, 2) the EOP Transfer Scholarship and 3) Elsa Downs Nursing Scholarship. The College Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for local high school graduates. The EOP Transfer Scholarship is offered to an Imperial Valley College student participating in the Equal Opportunity Program and who has completed the requirements to transfer to a four-year U.S. accredited institution while the Elsa Downs Scholarship is offered to an Imperial Valley student preparing for a career in nursing.
