-Editorial

Residents and members of the media were given an exclusive tour of the new Legacy MD Medical Center, a state-of-the-art facility set to enhance healthcare options in the Imperial Valley on Aug. 16. Led by Dr. Tien Tan Vo, owner and provider of Vo Medical and Medical Director of the new center, along with Dr. John Strong, the Chief Medical Officer, the tour showcased the extensive services and cutting-edge technology that will be available to the community.

Located on 1699 N. Imperial Avenue in El Centro, the new medical facility is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. all week.

Dr. Vo and Dr. Strong, highlighted the center’s comprehensive offerings, including urgent care, outpatient services, cardiac rehabilitation, and medical imaging such as x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds. The facility also features an in-house pharmacy and suture/minor surgery services.

Legacy MD Medical Center will collaborate closely with its in-house pharmacy to ensure quick access to prescriptions for patients, whether in-person or via home delivery. Dr. Vo told Beyond Borders Gazette the importance of minimizing wait times, stating that patients can receive their medications within 30 minutes of their visit.

“We have a drive-thru pharmacy and will deliver the home as well and will cater to the patients needs as well,” Vo said. “Whatever they need the pharmacy will have it.”

Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia congratulated Dr. Vo for this accomplishment saying that he was an important player helping people during the pandemic and has worked hard to improve local access to healthcare.

“Without good healthcare, without a good healthcare system in place, without healthy people, there isn’t a strong Imperial Valley economy,” Garcia said.

The opening of this facility comes as Imperial Valley will have a unified healthcare district thanks to Assembly Bill 918 authored by Garcia that will merge all the healthcare districts into one.

“This is going to be an awesome year due to the fact that we all come together and accomplish this,” said El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin.

In addition to on-site care, Legacy MD Medical Center provides innovative services for those who qualify, including house calls and transportation to the center via mobile vehicles. This initiative is part of Legacy MD is part pf the broader mission to deliver accessible and affordable healthcare to underserved and low-income communities in the Imperial Valley, with a particular focus on the Latin and Indigenous workforce.

“The bottom line is that we will try the best care that we can for everyone no matter what and provide superior care for the valley,” Dr. Strong said.

The center’s integrated healthcare delivery system aims to address the high prevalence of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in the region, while also supporting mental health and elderly care. By emphasizing coordinated care, Legacy seeks to reduce healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes, ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations receive the care they need.
