During his participation as a speaker at the California-Mexico Business Forum, Secretary of Economy and Innovation Kurt Honold Morales highlighted the excellent relationship with California and the significant opportunities to strengthen the ties between Baja California’s business sector and its counterparts in Los Angeles. The event, held on December 3 and 4, took place at the Official Residence of Mexico and the US Bank Tower.
Baja California was a prominent guest, with Kurt Honold joining a panel discussion during the opening session alongside Maria Salinas, President of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce; Fernando Sepúlveda, leader of the Mexican Business Association Chapter Los Angeles; and the Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Carlos González Gutiérrez. The panelists welcomed the event, which gathered business, innovation, and policy leaders.
The main topics covered included bilateral relations under the new leadership in Mexico and the United States, opportunities in nearshoring and cross-border financing, innovation and emerging technologies, building bridges through education, and using sports as economic drivers, among others.
In the sports section, Baja California was represented by the Presidents of the Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles Club, Mexicali Águilas Club, and Tijuana Toros. In the nearshoring discussion, Alejandro Bustamante, President of Plantronics Mexico, was featured.
For the educational collaboration segment, Fernando León, Rector of CETYS University, and Araceli Sosa from the Academic Cooperation Department at UABC participated.
Later, Secretary Honold had the opportunity to present the investment and business opportunities in Baja California. He emphasized that Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration is focused on enhancing infrastructure related to competitiveness, including border crossings, the Punta Colonet Port, the Elevated Viaduct, and water management projects.
He also discussed the talent development strategy for key industries such as semiconductors, electromobility, creative industries, and life sciences, highlighting collaboration with the state’s top universities, leading companies, and agreements with academic institutions in California and Arizona.
