IVEDC: 25 Years of Transformative Economic Development in the Imperial Valley

-Editorial

The Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC) has successfully led a business attraction campaign over the past 25 years, resulting in over $20 billion in investment and supporting more than 45 active projects in the Imperial Valley. These efforts are expected to increase tax revenues, create high-paying jobs, and improve the overall quality of life in the region. IVEDC works closely with many partner organizations to provide valuable services to businesses and residents in the area.

Through IVEDC’s partner, Imperial Regional Alliance, which hosts the Imperial Valley Business Resource Center (IVBRC), which offers essential support to help local businesses start, grow, and thrive. Its services include business consultations, workshops, access to capital, regulatory assistance, networking, and workforce development. This year, IVBRC is also launching a Digital Literacy Program in collaboration with the Southern Border Broadband Consortium (SBBC), offering free resources to the community. The program will educate the public on topics such as online safety and the benefits of digital tools. By providing these resources, the IVBRC promotes economic growth, digital inclusion, and business success in the Imperial Valley.

On a statewide level, Team California, an IVEDC partner, is a marketing organization that promotes California as a top destination for business investment and expansion. By highlighting the state’s strengths—such as its large economy, innovation hubs, skilled workforce, and global market access—Team California fosters job creation and economic growth. The organization collaborates with regional economic development groups and the private sector, supporting business development through trade shows, events, and investor connections.

In partnership with FHL Bank, Team California has selected the Imperial Valley as a key region to pilot a new approach that combines business attraction efforts with services provided by local communities.

Timothy E. Kelley, President and CEO of IVEDC, and current Vice President of Team California, is spearheading the Team California AHEAD Scholarship. This initiative will award five communities in the Imperial Valley a one-year membership to Team California, providing free marketing, software, and invitations to international trade shows. The scholarship recipients, selected by IVEDC, will be announced at the IVEDC Annual Dinner on February 6, 2025, at the Casa Blanca Venue in Holtville.

This year’s IVEDC Annual Dinner will celebrate 25 years of economic development in the Imperial Valley, with over 250 guests expected from around the globe. The event will honor businesses and members who have made a positive impact on the region. If you’re interested in attending, tickets can be purchased at www.ivedc.com/events/annualdinner.
