Index Mexicali Prepares to Employ Deported Mexican Nationals Amid Labor Shortage

-Editorial

The Association of the Maquiladora and Manufacturing Export Industry (Index) Mexicali is finalizing details to employ Mexican nationals deported from the United States as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.

Salvador Maese Barraza, president of the organization, emphasized that due to the high demand for labor in this sector—exceeding 3,000 job vacancies—efforts are being coordinated with authorities at all levels of government to support this influx of people and integrate them into the workforce.

He added that while many of these individuals have prior work experience, plans include offering technical training, such as courses in machine operation, assembly, and quality control, among other areas.

“We believe legal assistance is crucial to help them regularize their immigration status and obtain identification documents, particularly those that allow them to be formally registered as employees with the Ministry of Finance and the Mexican Social Security Institute,” he stated.

He also explained that the goal is to create a job bank with direct connections to the human resources departments of maquiladora companies, which offer competitive wages and legally mandated benefits.

“The export industry in Mexicali generates more than 280,000 jobs and is a fundamental part of the region’s economy. Addressing this migration flow is not just about employment but also a matter of social responsibility,” he concluded.
