Index Mexicali is celebrating, since in coordination with several volunteers and disinterested hands it worked for more than a year for an institution of the now Index Mexicali Foundation, a non-profit institution.
Last Friday the official presentation of the Index Mexicali Foundation was held at an event called “Convivencia Meraki ” in which the special guests were Gustavo Sánchez Vásquez, Municipal President, Margarita Flores Guízar de Sánchez, President of the Municipal DIF Board , As well as different authorities and entrepreneurs.
Index Mexicali Foundation aims to offer different programs to improve education, health, environment and culture in Mexicali society, an example of this is the program entitled “Contigo” (With You), which offers scholarships to people interested in continuing their education in technical-vocational areas.
Mexicali Index president, Mr. Salvador Maese Barraza and its Board of Directors, together with the director of the Foundation, Berenice López; the director of the Social Responsibility Committee, Célida Pelayo; representatives of the maquiladora sector, collaborators of the Mexicali Liaison Committee and different companies, together with their support this dream possible.
Contributing to the well-being of families in the maquiladora and export manufacturing industry is one of the main functions of the Foundation, which will work for the success of this project with values that represent honesty, transparency, integrity and collaboration.
It is important to note that the maquiladora sector is made up of 119 affiliated companies, which today represent 70,000 direct workers and 210,000 indirect workers.
“I see the Foundation as the heart of Index Mexicali, the Foundation’s reason for being in the 50 years of success of the Export Maquiladora Industry in Mexico, where Mexicali hosted the country’s first maquiladora, so in order to give back to the community everything it has done for our industry, we want to benefit 70 thousand workers, “said Berenice López.
Index Mexicali Foundation will start with two programs, on one hand with the theme of education and on the other on health, “the Contigo (With You) program is to benefit our associates’ production workers, where we have noticed that they are trying to get ahead and most of them have only basic education, Contigo will offer scholarships for technical careers in: Computing, Electricity, English, Electronics, PLCs, Air Conditioning , Machines and Tools, CNC, Welding, among others, the idea is to start this program in August,” stated Célida Pelayo.
The following program is called Unidos, which seeks to support the health of the index community with hearing aids, orthopedic devices, medications, tests that are not covered by Social Security, and with the alliance of several companies and people united, we’ll be able to help these people pay for those expenses.
During the event the Mayor of Mexicali did not lose opportunity to emphasize that Mexicali is distinguished by people like the Index Mexicali Foundation, people with solidarity and commitment, which fills him with pride.
The president of Index Mexicali thanked the whole team and the Index community who made this achievement possible, at the end of his speech he pronounced an encouraging phrase: “Together we can do great things, let us all join this project because we are convinced that education and health are the key to optimum development for the Cachanillas!”
