Trustee Jerry D. Hart was formally recognized during his final Imperial Community College District Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Hart, who represented Area 3 since
2007, was honored for 17 years of dedicated service with the presentation of Resolution No. 21854.
Hart’s tenure has been marked by unwavering commitment to student success and community advancement. During his time on the district’s board, Imperial Valley College achieved significant milestones, including being named the No. 1 college in the nation by the Aspen Institute in 2023.
“Trustee Hart has provided a legacy of selfless service and unwavering advocacy for student success,” said Dr. Lennor M. Johnson, IVC superintendent/president. “His contributions to IVC and the region will resonate for generations to come.”
Hart served as board president on three occasions and completed three terms on the California Community College Trustees Board. He also completed the Community College League of California’s Excellence in Trusteeship Program, demonstrating his dedication to effective governance. Beyond his trustee role, Hart served on the IVC Foundation Board for 13 years and the San Diego and Imperial Community Colleges Association Alliance Board for 16 years, including two terms as its president.
The resolution also recognized Hart’s passion for celebrating student success. He frequently attended campus events and ceremonies to honor the achievements of all IVC students. The board and campus community expressed their gratitude for Hart’s service and leadership during his final board meeting as a Trustee, acknowledging his lasting impact on IVC and the surrounding region.
The IVC Board of Trustees are set to welcome incoming Area 3 Trustee Peter Martinez next month, when he is formally sworn-in.
