Imperial County Receives Funds for Niland and Seeley

By: Mario Conde, Reporter

The unincorporated area of Imperial County will receive an upgrade in services thanks to funding received from the California Housing and Community Development.

At the Oct. 2nd Imperial County Board of Supervisors meeting, Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia attended the board meeting and provided a legislative update about the work done in the past legislative session.

He also presented a $6.3 million check that will be used to improve the sewer lines in the Seeley County Water District and for the Niland Public Safety District.

From this grant, $5 million has been allocated to construct a new public safety facility in Niland that would house a fire station, County Sheriff substation and a cooling center while $1.3 million will go towards Seeley water system improvement projects.

Currently, Imperial County Fire staff is operating out of a mobile home lacking necessary amenities needed to conduct operations. In a separate building, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office facility is exhibiting signs of dilapidation and lacks adequate space for staff.

The Seeley distribution system has aged and is in need of replacement. This system will upgrade a system that has been in use since the 1960s.
