The Imperial County District Attorney’s Office is pleased to announce the hiring of Deputy District Attorney Kia Harris. DDA Harris was sworn in by District Attorney George Marquez at a private ceremony in the DA Conference room on September 10, 2023.
DDA Harris has more than a decade of experience as a Criminal Prosecutor and specializes in prosecuting cases involving domestic violence. She brings her experience to Imperial County to assist victims of domestic abuse and assist local law enforcement agencies as they investigate domestic violence calls.
“We welcome DDA Harris as the newest member of our team and look forward to utilizing her expertise and experience to promote and ensure public safety in our local communities,” said DA Marquez. “DDA Harris is one of eight prosecutors hired since I took office in January, part of an aggressive campaign to recruit attorneys to alleviate the problem of extremely low staffing levels.”
DDA Harris previously worked as a prosecutor in San Diego assigned to the county’s High Risk Team (HRT)—a unit specializing in multi-agency coordination for victim services and emergency relocation. She is certified in victim threat assessment. DDA Harris also conducts awareness training for local Victim Advocacy groups and speaks at community meetings to address public concerns, solutions, the impact of crime, the status of cases, and repeat offenders.
Before working in San Diego, DDA Harris worked for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office for six years where she was assigned to the Felony Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Units.
