Imperial County DA Unveils New Logo, Highlights Reforms

-Editorial

Imperial County District Attorney George Marquez officially unveiled a new logo and mission statement for the District Attorney’s Office, marking a symbolic shift toward modernization and a renewed focus on justice. The announcement, made before his staff and law enforcement partners, was accompanied by an outline of significant structural and technological changes implemented since Marquez was sworn into office.

The newly adopted logo replaces the traditional badge with an image of Lady Justice, a woman holding the scales of justice, set against a backdrop of sun, birds, water, and Mount Signal. According to Marquez, the new design reflects a deeper meaning behind the office’s mission.

“This is Lady Justice, a woman holding the scales of justice, which, to me, represents what a District Attorney’s Office is more about. It’s more than just a badge,” Marquez said. “We stand for justice. We must be just in everything we do.”

In addition to the visual rebranding, Marquez introduced an updated mission statement aimed at reinforcing the office’s core values of integrity, fairness, and accountability.

The mission statement reads:

The District Attorney pursues justice and the safety of our community by safeguarding the rights of all people through the transparent enforcement of laws with integrity and fairness.

Since taking office, Marquez has led a comprehensive reform initiative focused on innovation, transparency, and improved community outreach. Among the most notable changes is the implementation of collaborative courts, designed to address underlying issues such as drug addiction, mental health conditions, and veteran support through rehabilitative justice rather than traditional prosecution.

Technological upgrades have also played a key role in modernizing operations. A newly launched victim notification system now alerts crime victims about the status of their cases. Additionally, victims can access case updates through a secure online portal. The office has transitioned to electronic processing of warrants and subpoenas, streamlining the legal workflow.

Marquez also shared that the DA’s Office has contracted a data analytics firm to assist in managing public records requests and identifying crime trends in the community. These insights are intended to inform policy decisions and resource deployment.

Looking ahead, Marquez is exploring the feasibility of developing a mobile application to further improve public access to services, though he noted the project is still under consideration.

The District Attorney’s Office has expanded staffing as well, increasing the number of prosecutors and creating dedicated units. A newly formed Domestic Violence Unit addresses one of the region’s most common offenses, and a designated DUI prosecutor now handles driving under the influence cases. The office is also launching a Retail Theft Initiative to support local businesses impacted by property crimes.
