Imperial Irrigation District continues to urge customers who have past due balances to contact the district and initiate a flexible payment plan.
Customers are asked to not hesitate and call the IID at 1-800-303-7756 if they are behind in their payments so they can enroll in a flexible payment plan. By contacting the district, they too can find out about the district’s payment assistance programs, as well as any programs available through partner agencies.
Financial Impact
Due to an increase in participation in IID’s customer assistance programs, as a result of the district trying to help customers during the COVID-19 crisis, IID’s customer assistance programs have been exceeding the 2020 budget. At the current rate, the district projects these programs to be $1.84 million over budget by year’s end.
To cover this shortfall, the IID Board of Directors has approved an option to shift $2 million from its Public Benefits Efficiency programs to the Customer Energy Assistance program budget. This would lessen the impact on the budget and allow the IID to continue to offer these customer assistance programs.
In addition to this budget shift, the district’s budget is also being impacted by customer non-payment. Due to non-payment, the district is projecting a revenue loss of about $7.5 million. This is reflected by 4,130 energy accounts with past due balances, a number that is about four times higher than the delinquencies during the same time as last year.
If you’re having trouble paying your IID electric bill, the district urges customers to contact IID to work out a payment plan and to see what kind of assistance may be available.
