In order to protect children, adolescents, teachers, and support staff from high temperatures, the State Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, has announced that the remainder of the 2023-2024 basic education school year will be conducted remotely in Mexicali, its Valley, and San Felipe.
This measure, which will be implemented from Thursday, June 27, until July 10, aims to safeguard the health of the educational community in light of the forecasted extreme temperatures in the region. According to the coordination of Civil Protection, maximum average temperatures between 46 and 48 degrees Celsius are expected until the end of the school year.
During the summer, recess times and physical activities, as well as other school programs, have been managed in Mexicali to mitigate the impact of the heat. Additionally, the Secretary of Education, Luis Gilberto Gallego Cortez, mentioned that the distribution, installation, repair, and replacement of air conditioners according to the priority list of schools continue.
Secretary Gallego Cortez assured that 100% of students in Baja California have access to email to continue their studies digitally until the end of the school year. The experience gained during the pandemic has enabled the educational community to effectively handle digital platforms such as Classroom and WhatsApp, as well as other Google For Education tools, complemented with workbooks and practical tasks.
The school year for students will officially end on Wednesday, July 10, while teachers must continue with administrative activities, including delivering report cards to parents and guardians and participating in the intensive Continuous Training Workshop for Teachers.
