FLASHPOINT: Where It All Begins, AGAIN!

Anticipating better storytelling and a more organized shared universe, James Gunn, who now shares the role of studio head at DC Studios with Peter Safran, announced an ambitious 10-year plan of movies, television series, animation, and video games that will bring our favorite superhero’s together under one big story.

This is an attempt to get away from the failed “Snyderverse” that while it was an ambitious project, never connected with the audience. That’s why James Gunn decided to push the “reset” button and build his own universe. That meant that Henry Cavill’s Superman was not going to continue. Which broke our hearts.

The first part will be Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.

There will be projects like Lanterns, likened to True Detective but with “Green Lanterns who are space cops overseeing precinct Earth;” The Authority “a passion project” for Gunn that will welcome the superhero team to the DCU for the first time; and Booster Gold, Gunn’s favorite character in that he’s “a loser from the future” who becomes a superhero in the present day so that people will love him — “basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome,” Gunn says.

Superman: Legacy will be the first movie featuring Clark Kent. This story will feature a version of the Man of Steel that’s still in his younger days as a hero, working his way up through the Daily Planet while finding his place in the world as Superman.

The film is influenced by the comic book storyline Flashpoint, featuring multiple DC Comics characters including both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprising their respective versions of Batman.

In this movie, Barry Allen/The Flash travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, which traps him in an alternate reality without metahumans. He enlists the help of Batman and the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl from alternate realities in order to save this world from the restored General Zod and return to his universe.

James Gunn confirmed that the film will reset the entire universe and, alongside Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, would lead into the upcoming 2025 film Superman: Legacy, segueing into the new DC Universe.

So, with a new universe on the horizon, the DC Universe is set to have a new journey that will include the Batfamily and Damian Wayne as Robin. It’s a refreshing idea that hopefully, fans will embrace.
