Financial Education Week Started in Imperial Valley

The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico inaugurated the Financial Education Week in the Imperial Valley where the objective is to advise residents of the information about their rights and financial options as residents of the United States.

The opening took place at the offices of the Calexico Unified School District

Financial Education Week offers Mexicans in the U.S. information and services to strengthen their education and financial inclusion, through strategic alliances with groups in Mexico and the United States. In 2017, more than 70,000 people received assistance and this year they expect to serve a greater number of Mexicans.

The workshop orientation objectives focuses on access to financial services, business development and basic skills for managing personal and family finances.

Mexican Counsul General in Calexico Carlos Flores Vizcarra spoke about the growth of Hispanics in the labor force of the United States. Consul Vizcarra invited those present not only to take the information but also to become entrepreneurs when putting into practice the information learned.

The presentations were about the opening of savings accounts and checking accounts, guidance on credit and savings, investment and entrepreneurship programs, financial services linked to Mexico, tax return advice, among others.

With the support and collaboration of banking, financial and governmental institutions of the County of Imperial and Mexico, this year the seventh edition of the SEF includes information workshops in the cities of Calexico, El Centro, Holtville and Salton City, CA. from March 19 to 23, 2018.
