Fiestas del Sol has something for everyone

-Editorial

The 42nd Annual Fiestas del Sol had a successful 2017 edition full of new attractions and a variety of artists performing at the fair. Mexicali Mayor Gustavo Sanchez promised that these Fiestas would be the best ever. This year, the theme for Fiestas is going back to the 70s and remember how Mexicali was back when Fiestas started.

Attendance for this Fiestas has been great as many people have gone to see the new attraction such as Ruta del Vino, Lego Ingenious, Haunted House, etc.

A record number of attendees saw Bronco as thirty-five thousand people saw them at the Island of Stars.

For Juan “Kotori” Contreras and his wife Mayra, these Fiestas have lived up to the expectations and have seen an improvement from previous years.

“We have seen that food prices improved this year to the point that it is accessible to everyone,” Contreras said.

The new attraction this year is the Wine Pavilion where people have the opportunity to drink different kinds of wine and craft beer.

One of the craft beer booths was Coralillo Brewing Co. and its co-founder Jose Real. Real has many years of experience in the beer industry in Mexicali and was one of the first ones to import beer in Mexicali. After many years as a distribution person, he decided to co-found Corralillo Brewing Co. and give people of Mexicali a new beer option. Real said that today there is more market for carft beers than in the past and the consumer is looking for new options. Hence, the growth of craft beer in Mexicali.

Also present was Daniel Basultos from Cerveza Malgro, a beer made in Mexicali. This beer company has been around for two years. It started as a hobby by the three partners making the beer at their homes and later growing where they produced their beer at a warehouse and now selling it at ten places in Mexicali.  Cerveza Malgro’s goal is to create a product people can enjoy and have a Mexicali product be known nationally in the near future.
