Farmworkers enjoy annual breakfast

Every farm workers breakfast falls in the coldest day of the winter but that doesn’t stop the annual tradition that celebrates the hard work of the men and women that works in the fields of Imperial Valley.

On the morning of December 1st, volunteers from all over the Imperial Valley served meals to the approximately 3,000 farm workers in Calexico. The farm workers breakfast started in the 1970s by a group of volunteers who served coffee and donuts. The event began to receive support from the city of Calexico and other agencies that made it a big event.

The breakfast consisted of tamales, beans, rice, coffee, milk, and orange juice that were given to the thousands that attended the event.

Now in its 38th edition, the farmworkers breakfast represents the time of the year where farm workers are thankful for their work and contributions to the economy.
