El Centro Bucklin Park selected for future site of Vietnam Moving Memorial Wall

El Centro, CA.- The City of El Centro is proud to announce they were selected as the host city to display the Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall at Bucklin Park. The AV Wall – The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall is a half-scale size tribute monument of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC.

The City of El Centro and Imperial Valley College were the two sites considered for the display of the Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall. Councilmember Jason Jackson was instrumental in encouraging the site selection committee to consider El Centro. “I am really excited about this project,” Jackson says “It means a lot to me to have the AV Wall here in El Centro so that our community can come out to Bucklin Park and be able to see it and perhaps find a name of their loved one that fought and died in Vietnam”. Jackson goes onto to say “I may have put the time into the project but if it were not for the City of El Centro staff we could not have won this. It took many hours of planning and preparation to show that Bucklin Park in El Centro is the perfect place for this memorial.”

According to Thomas W. Henderson, Adjutant, VFW Post 9305 Mobile Memorial Wall Presentation for Imperial County was quoted “that in all the years that they have done site visits, only one presided by the Commanding General of Mira Mar exceeded the efforts of the City of El Centro and Imperial Valley College.”

The AV Wall is expected to be in El Centro on March 26 through 30, 2020.  For more information about the AV Wall the City encourages you to visit https://avwall.org for more information.
