Trump is Back.
Former President Donald Trump has officially secured victory against Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, positioning himself to reclaim the presidency after a four-year hiatus. The announcement of his triumph, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, marks a significant moment in American political history, as Trump prepares to become the oldest president in U.S. history by the end of his term and the second to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland.
Trump declared that his campaign “overcame obstacles” in his pursuit of the White House. “We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible, and it’s clear we’ve achieved something incredible — look at what happened, isn’t this crazy?” he told supporters gathered in West Palm Beach, Florida. He added, “Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and your future. Every single day I will be fighting for you, and with every breath in my body.”
Vice-Presidential candidate J.D. Vance spoke to supporters, expressing gratitude to Trump for “the trust” he placed in him and describing the election outcome as “the greatest political comeback in U.S. history.” “Following the greatest political comeback in American history, we’re poised to lead the greatest economic comeback in American history under Donald Trump’s leadership,” Vance said.
The political landscape shifted following Trump’s nomination at the Republican National Convention on July 15, 2024, in Milwaukee, where he introduced Vance, the junior U.S. Senator from Ohio, as his vice-presidential running mate. The duo campaigned on a platform that resonated with American voters, particularly emphasizing issues of national security, economic revival, and a strong stance against immigration.
Trump’s campaign was characterized by a series of bold proposals aimed at addressing what he termed the “urgent needs of the American people.” His agenda includes initiatives to seal the border and stop the migrant invasion, alongside what he promises to be the largest deportation operation in American history. These pledges found support among constituents who feel that immigration policies have failed to adequately protect American jobs and communities.
In addition to immigration reform, Trump vowed to end inflation and make America affordable again, a message that resonated with voters grappling with rising living costs. His economic strategy includes large tax cuts for workers and a commitment to transform the United States into a manufacturing superpower, effectively curtailing outsourcing and bolstering domestic production.
Trump also focused heavily on national security, pledging to strengthen the military and ensure that the U.S. remains the dominant energy producer in the world. His foreign policy promises include restoring peace in conflict-ridden regions and building a Great Iron Dome missile defense shield over the nation, all while emphasizing the need to prevent World War III.
The former president’s platform also highlights a commitment to defending the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights and protecting fundamental freedoms such as freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Trump’s campaign was fueled by a sense of urgency among supporters who believe that these rights are under threat from current governmental policies.
In contrast, Vice President Harris faced challenges in addressing her administration’s record, particularly regarding inflation and public safety. Many voters expressed frustration over the perceived inability of the current administration to effectively manage these pressing issues, leading to a shift in support toward Trump’s candidacy.
Republicans have won control of the U.S. Senate, reclaiming the chamber for the first time in four years, giving the GOP a significant power base in Washington and a central role in confirming the next president’s Cabinet, along with any Supreme Court justices if a vacancy arises. Meanwhile, control of the House of Representatives remains uncertain, with more than 100 races still yet to be decided.
Imperial Valley Election Results
For the first time in Calexico’s history, a majority of women are set to take seats on the city council, with Adriana Marquez, Lisa Tylenda, and Diana Nuricumbo projected to win this election. This groundbreaking shift reflects the community’s growing support for female leadership. Joining the trio will be Councilman Victor Legaspi and School Board Trustee Lorenzo Calderon, rounding out the five-member council. This historic outcome marks a new chapter for Calexico as it welcomes its first female-majority council.
Two of the most important races in Imperial County remain too close to call. The hotly contested Imperial County Supervisor District 2 race between Martha Singh-Cardenas and Dihana Garcia-Ruiz, as well as the Imperial Irrigation District Division 4 race between Javier Gonzalez and Lewis Pacheco, are still undecided. Both races have seen a tight margin, and final results may come down to the last remaining ballots.
Democrat Joey Acuña holds a narrow lead of a few thousand votes over Republican Jeff Gonzalez in the closely watched California State Assembly District 36 race. The competitive contest follows Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia’s decision not to seek re-election after a decade in office. During the March Primary, Gonzalez was the top vote-getter in a heavily Democratic district.
As required by the State of California, the Registrar of Voters has until Tuesday, December 3, 2024, to certify the election results. The process of counting provisional and vote-by-mail ballots is thorough and requires additional verification steps. Provisional ballots are counted after voter rosters are reviewed, and the voter’s history is applied to their record to ensure accuracy and integrity.
